The Removal of Office and Recall Bill would kick out disgraced MSPs who let down their constituents. The vast majority of parliamentarians enter politics with the intention of serving their constituents dutifully and to the best of their ability. However, there are examples of representatives that have abused their position or have failed to meet the standards that the public have the right to expect. The Scottish Conservatives will introduce the Removal of Office and Recall Bill to address this issue.

In the UK Parliament, there are rules for removing elected officials. The UK Parliament has clear rules around recall, allowing a by-election to take place in certain circumstances, but no such rules exist for MSPs.

The Removal of Office and Recall Bill will give the public the power to remove failing MSPs. The Removal of Office and Recall Bill will allow the public to recall MSPs who have broken the law, grossly undermined trust or failed to contribute to Parliament for more than six months.
