The SNP have abandoned Scotland’s oil and gas industry.

Nicola Sturgeon has brought the extremist Greens into government, threatening the future of the North Sea sector and risking the tens of thousands of Scottish jobs supported by the industry.

The oil and gas industry is an important part of Scotland’s economy with tens of thousands of jobs relying on it. We believe that protecting those jobs should be a key priority as we deliver net zero. We support working with the UK Government to deliver the North Sea Transition Deal through which they are investing £16 billion to cut emissions and secure 40,000 jobs.

The way to solve the climate crisis is not by importing gas from abroad while losing Scottish jobs. Importing oil and gas from other countries during the transition to net zero would increase carbon emissions. Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine has also shown that it is more important than ever that we have a secure domestic supply as part of our future energy mix if we are to meet the country’s energy needs. North sea oil and gas will help provide this security without leaving us dependent on volatile and more polluting foreign imports.
