Scottish High Streets

Scotland’s high streets are being let down by The SNP.

The Covid-19 crisis has had a devastating effect on Scottish high streets.

Around 27 shops closed every week in Scotland in 2021.

The SNP must do more to save our high streets and transform town centres back into hubs of business, retail and entertainment.

Here are the steps the Scottish Conservatives would take to support Scottish High Streets:

1 – Support councils to exempt high street and town centres from paying business rates.

2 – Provide full funding for councils to scrap parking charges on publicly-owned car parks, making it easier for people to shop locally.

3 – Relax planning laws so that empty high-street businesses can be transformed into high-quality housing.

4 – Create more parks and green spaces in town centres.

5 – Support communities’ ‘first right to buy’ when local businesses are facing closure.

6 – Empower local councils with fair funding, so that they can make decisions about what’s best for their towns and communities.
