Scotland has the highest drug death rate of any country in Europe.  The SNP’s system for treating addiction is simply not fit for purpose. It focuses on treating problems like heroin use by increasing methadone prescriptions, rather than by rehabilitation and recovery programmes.

Waiting times for residential rehabilitation are notoriously long. Nicola Sturgeon herself admitted they aren’t acceptable. But the SNP have had 14 years to tackle this problem, and all we have seen is a string of failed policies and rising death numbers. It’s time to end this tragic cycle of failure and save lives.

Our Right to Recovery Bill will ensure that no one is denied addiction treatment ever again.

We will enshrine into Scots law this right to life-saving treatment. With it, we will establish a national funding scheme to ensure resources swiftly reach treatment services in areas of acute demand. We must – and will – end this national scandal.
