Local planning

Over the last 14 years the SNP Government has overruled too many local planning decisions.

Nearly half of all planning decisions which were appealed to SNP Ministers had their original council decisions overturned. This has led to hundreds of developments going ahead due to the instructions of the SNP Government in Edinburgh, against the wishes of communities and local representatives across the country.

We would amend planning laws so that the SNP Government cannot overturn local planning decisions. This would ensure that major developments require engagement with communities, and that national infrastructure projects would be required to deliver clear local benefits to those that will be affected by it.
