Local planning

Over the last 14 years the SNP Government has overruled too many local planning decisions.

Since the 2017 Local Elections, the SNP Government has overruled local councils on 46% of all planning decision appeals. The SNP government overturned 379 local authority decisions, out of 816 appeals. Aberdeenshire Council had 42 decisions overturned by the SNP, the second most of any council.

We would amend local planning laws so that the SNP Government cannot overturn local planning decisions. This would ensure that major developments require engagement with communities, and that national infrastructure projects would be required to deliver clear local benefits to those that will be affected by it.
