We would restore Scotland’s schools to their high pre-SNP standards. Under the SNP, teacher numbers have decreased, Scotland has dropped in international league tables, subject choice has decreased, and the attainment gap has widened.

We would deliver 3,000 more teaching places. The Scottish Conservatives want to improve the quality of teacher training and recruit 3,000 additional teachers. This would help overworked teachers, improve subject choice while also reducing class sizes.

STEM education is vital for Scotland’s future economic potential. STEM classes allow pupils to develop skills that will remain with them throughout their lives. We would introduce a dedicated STEM teacher in every primary school.

Rural schools must be just as good. The Scottish Conservatives want to establish a Rural Teacher Fund to attract great teachers to live and work in rural areas of Scotland and address long-standing staff shortages in rural schools.

Pupils must have the choice to decide from a wide range of subjects. We would bring in a subject guarantee so that all pupils have the opportunity to take at least seven subjects in S4.
