Deport foreign criminals

We would use powers devolved to the Scottish Parliament to facilitate the deportation of convicted foreign criminals in Scotland as soon as possible.

Deporting foreign criminals in Scotland

The Scottish Conservatives would request to the UK Home Secretary that every foreign criminal is deported from Scotland. Deportation powers are reserved to the UK Government, but to crackdown on lawbreakers in Scotland, whenever a foreign criminal is convicted of a crime of any kind by a Scottish court, a Scottish Conservative government would request to the Home Secretary that they are deported for the public good.

The Scottish Conservatives would facilitate the immediate deportation of foreign criminals in Scotland’s jails. Scottish Ministers already have the power to release foreign criminals from prison in order to be deported but the Scottish Conservatives would expand the scheme so that every foreign criminal in a Scottish prison subject to a deportation order would be given the option to be deported as soon as possible to free up more space in our jails and ensure these dangerous individuals aren’t let back out onto the streets.

The Scottish Conservatives would also explore ways to progress deportation cases in Scotland more swiftly. We would convene the various organisations that are involved with deportations in Scotland with a view to providing resources to the bodies who need extra money to speed up cases where deportation is either being pursued or is a possible outcome of legal proceedings.
