Communities

Years of centralisation by the SNP has resulted in many communities across Scotland losing local services.

Communities

For the last 15 years, this SNP Government has held our communities back.

Continued centralisation has meant that communities across Scotland are being left behind – suffering from the double-blow of the removal of local services and slashed council budgets.

From 2013 to 2022, the Scottish Government budget grew around 2.5 times the rate of the local government budget. Ultimately, while the Barnett Formula guarantees that the Scottish Government’s budget is linked to UK Government spending, there is no such protection available for local government from the SNP.

We would bring forward a Communities Bill to provide a fair funding deal for our councils. Our Bill would improve local services and stop the SNP slashing council budgets to the bone.

Everyone should be able to find a good job without having to leave the community they grew up in. No one’s opportunities should be limited because of where they live. We would deliver a programme of Community Investment Deals worth up to £25 million each, creating good local jobs in every part of the country.
