Scots are paying some of the highest taxes in the UK, yet public services keep getting worse. SNP welfare spending is now on course to hit £10 billion a year, a level that is unfair and unsustainable.
The only way the SNP can fund this is by hiking taxes even more.
But there is another way. We believe that workers should keep more of their own money.
John Swinney could cut people’s taxes in his Budget next week by tackling the out-of-control benefits bill. The question is whether he has the bravery to do so.
