đź”—JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN to Scrap the SNP Hate Crime Act
Humza Yousaf’s Hate Crime Act is a threat to free speech in Scotland and must be repealed.
From 1 April, private conversations that take place in people’s homes will fall under the new law.
And those who make “offensive” remarks may be found guilty of stirring up hatred, prompting concerns that comedians and stage performances could be criminalised. Â
Frontline officers are already under significant strain, with the force announcing that it will no longer investigate every crime. However, Police Scotland say they will investigate every alleged hate crime reported to them.
Academics, lawyers, journalists and women’s rights groups fear that stating legitimate and lawful opinions could result in police investigation and possible prosecution – having a “chilling effect” on free speech.
We still believe this dangerous law must be repealed.
