UK Government confirms £40m growth deal for Falkirk

21 Jul 2020

The UK Government has announced a £40 million growth deal for Falkirk which will create jobs in the area and boost investment.

The scheme is the 11th city and region deal for Scotland launched by the UK Government.

The deal will create skilled jobs for Falkirk and the surrounding area, as well as focus on supporting sustainable travel, tourism and energy.

It will also support the local chemical manufacturing industry at nearby Grangemouth, enabling investment in low carbon innovation.

Scottish Conservative Central Scotland MSP Alison Harris said:

“This announcement is a great boost for everyone who lives or works in Falkirk.

“The area has been in great need of a boost after suffering so badly as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and resultant lockdown restrictions.

“The £40 million deal provides serious money to Falkirk and should create opportunities for a huge number of people.

“It’s more proof that the UK Government is absolutely committed to economic growth in Scotland which creates jobs and opportunities.

“The UK Government is putting its money where its mouth is for Falkirk and towns like it across Scotland.

“It’s time for the SNP government to show a similar level of commitment.”
