Scottish Conservatives launch European election campaign with pledge to clean up politics and restore trust

The Scottish Conservatives are pledging to continue to clean up European politics.

At their European campaign launch in Peterhead they also demanded a Westminster election to help restore trust in UK politics.

Signing a pledge calling for a more transparent Europe, Struan Stevenson MEP said:

“As a result of David Cameron's leadership the expenses of Conservative MEPs are already more transparent than every other party. As a result of our Right to Know rules introduced last year all our expenses are already published so the public can see them but today I am signing a pledge to go further. Conservatives want to see an end to the European gravy train - we have consistently voted against an EU budget that is wasteful and we want to save at least a billion pounds in EU spending. As MEPs we must do our part to restore confidence in politics and politicians.”

Adding her name to the 'Sign for Change' petition, Annabel Goldie MSP, Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party Leader, said:

“June 4th is very important but we could make it even more important - Gordon Brown should find his political bottle and call a Westminster election as well. We need long-term decisions on the economy not short-term panic measures, we need a leader who is in control not floundering from crisis to crisis, we need to restore trust in politicians and we need to give the people of Scotland a chance to have their say. Call the election Mr Brown.”
