Ask A Question Transcription

Open on a little girl, aged about 6, sitting on a bus next to her mum.
The girl excitedly points out of the window.

Girl: "Look mum, there it is."
Through the window we see the Scottish Parliament building.
We follow the girl and her mum off the bus. The girl runs off excited.
Mum: "Slow down, wait for me."
They walk towards the entrance of the parliament.
Girl: "What do you think they will say?"
Mum: "I don't know darling."
They reach the front entrance. A security guard stops them.
Girl: "Hello, I have come to ask the First Minister a question."
Guard: "I'm sorry, but you can't do that."
Girl: "But I just want to ask him ‘Why can't I get in to see a dentist?'"
Guard: "I'm sorry, but we can't just let anyone ask the First Minister a question."
Girl:" But isn't it First Ministers question time? Why can't I ask him my question? "
Guard: "You can come in, but you won't be able to ask him a question."
Girl: "Why not? I want to know ‘Why can't I…'"

Cut to a middle aged woman, sitting at a window, talking to camera.

Woman: "I live in a small town and it has got so intimidating on the streets, I am scared to go out at night. A lady got mugged last week. She only had £2.60 in her purse. Apparently, her mugger was a heroin addict, after some money to buy more drugs. I've been told that heroin addicts are being prescribed methadone. Isn't that just another drug for them to get addicted to? Why isn't there…"

Cut to Annabel in parliament. This time it is the woman's voice coming out of her mouth.
Annabel Goldie(Woman):" … proper rehabilitation facilities available for every drug addict? Surely reducing drug addiction will reduce crime. "

Text on screen : The Scottish Conservatives are proposing a £100m investment in drug rehabilitation.
Text on screen: This will save £1 billion a year on policing, prisons and healthcare services.

Cut to an old man, sitting in an armchair, talking to camera. He has various pieces of paper on the coffee table in front of him. He holds up two council tax bills.

Old man: "In the last ten years, my council tax has gone up by 60%.
He puts the bills down and picks up two pension slips."
Old man: "But my pension has hardly gone up at all. It's got so bad, that I'm having to sell my home because I can't afford to keep up with the payments. Why can't the government give pensioners"

Cut to Annabel in parliament. This time it is the old man's voice coming out of her mouth.
Annabel Goldie (Old man): "a 50% cut in their council tax? That way they can afford to stay in their own homes. "
