Tributes to Phil Gallie

Chairman of the Scottish Conservative Party, Andrew Fulton said:

"The whole party are deeply saddened at the news of Phil's passing, and are sharing in his family's grief. Phil made a fantastic contribution the Conservative and Unionist cause over a lifetime dedicated to Politics.

"He was the heart and soul of the party in the West of Scotland, particularly in Ayr which he represented so brilliantly in Parliament.

"To the very end he kept the Executive of the Party on our toes with his deep knowledge and canny wisdom. Personally, I will greatly miss his regular phone calls and e-mails marking my card on the issues of the day – always with pawky humour and the very best of the Party's interests at heart."

Minister of State for Scotland, David Mundell MP said:

"Phil was a great campaigner for the causes he believed in and the people he represented. He brought a tremendous enthusiasm to all that he did, both in politics and outwith, and was a great inspiration to many aspiring politicians.

"He will be sadly missed, not just in the Conservative Party and in his former constituency, but by all who knew him across Scotland."

Scottish Conservative MSP for Ayr, John Scott MSP said:

"My first thoughts are with Phil's family to which he was utterly committed, particularly Kirsteen and Craig, and their children, who have lost not just a father but a friend.

"As a passionate Conservative he was particularly devoted to his Ayr constituency and the people he represented across the South of Scotland until his standing down in 2007. His passing is a matter of the greatest regret to all who knew him and he was still very active behind the scenes of the party – his loss will be very keenly felt.

"Known locally for helping everybody and anybody, he would have given the shirt off his back to help those in need. He will be greatly missed."
