The Smith Group which advises Ministers on education policy, enterprise in education and youth employment issues, has published its 2011 report. In the report they recommend that more could be done to improve pupils in the transition from primary to secondary school.
Scottish Conservative Education Spokesperson, Liz Smith MSP said:
"We broadly welcome the findings of The Smith Group report, in particular its recommendation that local authorities and individual schools could do more to improve the transitional arrangements from primary to secondary school. This is one of the biggest steps in a young person's life and can prove to be particularly challenging and stressful if a child moves to a school in a different area.
"It is sadly too often the case that children who perform well in primary school fail to translate this high level of attainment into secondary school. This is something that needs to be addressed and we will be interested to see what measures are recommended when it comes to making the transition period more successful and more carefully articulated to the needs of individual pupils."
