This must be a budget in the national interest, not the Nationalists interests

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's budget announcement, Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, says:

"The UK Government has set out spending plans for the next 4 years. The Scottish Parliament has done the same for Holyrood's running costs. Why can't the SNP Government follow suit for our country?

"If the SNP insists on only publishing a one year budget plan then that just makes it harder to assess whether it's acting in the long term interests of Scotland, to boost the economy and to secure the recovery, or just nakedly engaging in self indulgent electioneering.

"The suspicion is growing that Alex Salmond only wants a political fix to get him through May's Elections. That is wrong and bad for Scotland. The Scottish Conservatives want a budget deal that is in Scotland's long-term best interests but I fear that desire is not really shared by the other parties. We will assess this budget on what it does for Scotland, not what it does for Alex Salmond."
