SNP’s Local Income Tax cover-up intensifies: Only Annabel can keep Salmond in check

The row over Alex Salmond and the SNP's Local Income Tax cover-up has intensified today.

The Telegraph reports today that court papers lodged by Scottish Government lawyers – paid for by the taxpayer – state Alex Salmond wanted details of his local income tax plans kept secret so he was spared "lurid headlines" about the controversial policy.

Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Leader, said:

"Alex Salmond's double standards and hypocrisy know no bounds. In opposition, the SNP cried blue murder when the last Scottish Government tried to keep secrets - but when they've got something to hide the SNP quickly changes its tune.

"Ever since the SNP scrapped its plans to hammer Scotland with a local income tax in the last Parliament, they had a duty to tell the public the unpalatable truth.

"Following Angus Robertson's shifty and evasive performance on Good Morning Scotland, there are growing suspicions that more is being kept secret and the timing of legal appeal was designed to block any more information being revealed under FOI requests on this or any other issues – such as what happened to the SNP's pledge to dump the debt.

"As I said before, this smells of fish, fish, fish.

"Alex Salmond needs to be kept in check, and that's what I will continue to do."
