SNP’s futile attempt to make independence more acceptable won’t fool anyone

A study by Professor James Mitchell of the University of Strathclyde has found that the SNP is trying to change its definition of independence.

David McLetchie MSP, Scottish Conservative Constitution Spokesperson, said:

"The SNP was formed in 1934. It is extraordinary that 77 years later they still don't know what independence means. Unfortunately for the SNP, the people of Scotland do.

"Accordingly, they are watering it down to try and make it more acceptable. This is a futile attempt to run away from the uncomfortable questions the SNP doesn't want to answer such as the future of our armed forces given their opposition to NATO and the loss of our currency given their support for joining the Euro.

"In the meantime, Alex Salmond needs to answer another question: If he was so keen to hold a referendum last year when he led a minority government, then why is he so afraid to hold it this year now he has a majority?"
