SNP’s document cannot gloss over catalogue of broken promises

The SNP have tried to gloss over their catalogue of broken promises since 2007 by producing a document outlining some of the pledges they claim they have met.

Murdo Fraser, Scottish Conservative Deputy Leader, said:

"People will not be fooled by this document. They remember that in 2007 the SNP promised to dump student debt, cut class sizes for P1 - P3 pupils to 18 or fewer, give all first time buyers a £2,000 grant, give every child in every school 2 hours of PE a week, introduce a Local Income Tax, hold an Independence referendum and end automatic early release from our prisons.

"On none of these pledges have they come even close. The SNP's record is a catalogue of broken promises.

"Where the SNP Government has succeeded – a Council Tax freeze, 1000 extra police on our streets, cuts in business rates for thousands of small businesses, a £60m Town Centre Regeneration Fund and a £26m boost to small business and construction – it has been because Scottish Conservative votes forced these policies through Parliament.

"Scottish Conservatives have delivered more in the last four years than any other opposition party since devolution began. More Scottish Conservative MSPs means more common sense delivery. Every voter in every seat, in every region of Scotland can vote for more common sense policies on May 5th."
