The most telling aspect of the SNP's pledge to crack down on crime is what they don't talk about, not what they are talking about.
John Lamont, Scottish Conservative Justice Spokesperson, said:
"There might be merit in some of the measures the SNP have announced today but most important is what they don't talk about.
"They promised to stop automatic early release – where criminals automatically get of jail halfway through their sentence – yet they haven't. They have continually voted against Scottish Conservative amendments to end it.
"In fact, the SNP have gone the other way and emptied our jails. Along with the Lib Dems they have scrapped short sentences, paving the way for people guilty of domestic violence, drug pushing and assault to skip jail.
"The SNP's most positive achievement is the 1000 extra police officers – and they only did that because of Scottish Conservative pressure. Had it been down to the SNP, we would only have got 500.
"Scottish Conservatives have a proven track record of delivery – we will tackle crime, restore honesty in sentencing and stand up for victims."
