It has emerged that 13 civil servants are still being paid to work on the SNP's campaign for independence. Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, said:

"The SNP are constantly complaining about cuts – yet are quite happy to squander over half a million pounds a year on a National Conversation which has been reduced to a whisper.
"As we have said before, now that Alex Salmond has ditched his Independence Bill, not a penny more of taxpayers' money should be spent on his party political obsession.
"These are tough times – if the SNP can't think of a better way to spend this money, they could always take the radical step of saving it."
