SNP must maintain 1000 extra police

The latest police office numbers have been published.

John Lamont MSP, Scottish Conservative Justice Spokesperson, said:

"We forced the SNP Government to deliver 1000 extra police in the last parliament, rather than the 500 they wanted. At the recent election our fully costed and comprehensive spending plans were able to guarantee these 1000 extra police for the duration of this parliament.

"Whatever changes take place over the next five years, we are completely committed to retaining the 1000 extra police numbers we forced through in the last parliament. Put simply, we will not back any budget which does not maintain the funding for the 1000 extra police and we expect the SNP Government to honour their commitment to making Scotland safer."
