SNP led West Lothian Council has passed a motion stating that the SNP Government's National Conversation is "a vanity project" and "has proven of no value to the people of Scotland".
Gavin Brown, Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothians, said:
"This motion passed by West Lothian Council confirms what we already know – that the National Conversation is a waste of taxpayers' money and a waste of everyone's time," said Lothians MSP Gavin Brown.
"This will, however, leave the SNP red faced as West Lothian Council is led by the SNP. It is a conversation that does not have the backing of the Scottish Parliament and is taking place at the same time as less than a third of the Scottish people support independence."
"As we have previously said, now that Alex Salmond has ditched his Independence Bill, not a penny more of taxpayers' money should be spent on his party political obsession which is of no value to the people of Scotland."
"West Lothian Council is correct to say that this money would be better spent on protecting front line services but instead the SNP have frittered away money on a National Conversation that has been reduced to a whisper all while constantly complaining about cuts."
