SNP failing to protect frontline services

NHS Scotland workforce statistics have shown that over 4,000 staff have been let go from the NHS in Scotland since 2009, with over 2,000 nurse and midwife positions being cut.

Scottish Conservative Public Health Spokesperson, Nanette Milne MSP said:

"These are worrying statistics and confirm what has long been known - that the SNP is failing to protect frontline NHS services. These are huge cuts to staffing numbers, and with nursing and midwifes positions dropping by over 2,000 in the last year it is the key employees who are being let go.

"That so many have been cut so quickly is a worrying pattern that is without doubt already having a serious negative effect on the service provided in our hospitals. Despite their rhetoric the SNP are disposing of vital frontline staff and by threatening these services they are going completely against the promise they made to the Scottish people.

"When the Scottish Conservatives pledged to protect frontline services we meant it - it is a shame that the SNP cannot be trusted to keep their word. They must reverse this trend as soon as possible so we can start ensuring that we have sufficient staffing in the NHS that can provide the service Scots expect and deserve."
