HMIe is reviewing its existing school inspection framework, which was introduced in 2008.
Liz Smith MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education & Lifelong Learning, said:
"It is vital that the school inspection process continues to carry the full confidence of all staff, parents and pupils. Recent reforms to the process have ensured that schools are now much better at assessing their own strengths and weaknesses prior to the arrival of the inspectors. Inspections are also more carefully targeted at schools or departments within schools where there are clearly identified problems. This, together with the fact that there is a much more open and transparent process which involves staff, parents and pupils should be welcomed."
