Slopping out ruling set to cost Scotland’s taxpayers even more money

Two convicted sex offenders at Peterhead Prison have won a landmark legal victory after a judge ruled that slopping out breached their privacy rights.

Other cases are thought likely to follow.

John Lamont MSP, Scottish Conservative Justice Spokesperson, said:

"Whilst it is pleasing that the compensation bill for these cases is less than expected, the public is still fed up with their money being used to pursue such claims and lining the pockets of some of society's worst offenders.

"Also, there are still so many cases outstanding, which will lead to even more taxpayers' money being shelled out. The incorporation of ECHR into the 1998 Scotland Act, a move backed by all of the other main parties, has cost Scotland dear and now this ruling could make things even worse."
