Separation will not make Scots feel more British

The SNP has issued an astonishing claim that separation could make Scots feel more British.

Murdo Fraser MSP, Scottish Conservative Deputy Leader, said:

"This is another bizarre claim by the SNP. If Shetland were to leave Scotland, would that make Shetlanders feel more Scottish? Do former East Germans feel less German now that they have unification?

"The SNP is grasping at straws to manufacture arguments in favour of its policy of isolation. They are trying to draw attention away from the real questions that they won't answer – for example how would they fill the massive black hole in our finances and what would happen to our UK military forces?

"This smokescreen won't work. The majority of Scots are Scottish and British and want their social, political and economic ties to remain. It is just the way we are and the way the majority wants it to be.

"Separation would not make anyone feel more British – it would instead turn Scotland into a foreign country."
