Scottish Government sources have confirmed to journalists that the statement about the future of Scottish Water by the First Minister today means that it will "Still be owned by Ministers"
Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Derek Brownlee says:
"It's one thing that successive Scottish Governments have already wasted £1bn of taxpayers' money by not giving Scottish Water wider access to funding - it is quite another that they continue to do so.
"The SNP has a golden opportunity to save taxpayers over £140m a year and generate a one off windfall for taxpayers - and it can do that and still keep Scottish Water publicly owned as the Scottish Conservatives have consistently argued. Ruling that out is a high price to keep a handful of extreme left wing members of the SNP happy.
"If the SNP won't take the easy decisions, there is no chance of it taking tough ones. And if the SNP won't take tough decisions, it won't be in Government for much longer."
