The Scottish Liberal Democrats have held a ‘pre-manifesto launch' in Edinburgh today, ahead of next year's Scottish Parliament elections and a one-day conference tomorrow.
Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, said:
"Putting aside the irony of the Lib Dems complaining about the cost of the GP contract they imposed in Government, or their silence on high pay when they were busy as ministers creating quangos and recruiting extra public sector workers on a daily basis, it is at least good that Tavish Scott has joined the Scottish Conservatives in arguing for change.
"However, the Lib Dems must know that for pay restraint to be meaningful it cannot just apply to a few senior employees. Targeting only the very well paid in the public sector may get easy headlines, but it will not be enough to deal with the savings we need to make.
"The Lib Dems should join the Scottish Conservatives in calling for a public sector recruitment freeze as well as a pay freeze in order to save jobs and secure the recovery."
