Scottish Conservatives want extra respite care for our dedicated carers

Scottish Conservatives want to provide extra respite care, to enable our dedicated carers to enjoy some much-deserved time off.

Speaking from Bridge of Weir in Renfrewshire, Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Leader, said:

"Carers do a phenomenal job – if you are not one yourself then it is difficult to fully appreciate just how much strain and stress these dedicated people endure. Sometimes they feel isolated and unsupported, which must change.

"We value the contribution made by carers across Scotland and it is so important we express this properly. What we must do is offer them real help.

"Scottish Conservatives want to make progress in implementing the National Carers' Strategy to improve services for carers.

"Crucially, we will also provide £48m worth of extra assistance, principally through additional respite care. Sometimes all our carers need is time to themselves, time to relax and re-energise.

"We will work with the voluntary sector, local authorities and the NHS to achieve these goals. It is common sense to give our dedicated carers all the help we can and that is exactly what Scottish Conservatives will do."
