Scottish Conservatives have written to the Regulatory Review Group urging them to investigate the impact of the SNP Government’s plan to increase business rates on Scottish retailers.
Gavin Brown MSP, Shadow Minister for Enterprise, said:
“The SNP has shown its true colours by proposing this £30m tax rise. The retail sector in Scotland is a major employer – higher taxes will only make Scotland less competitive than the rest of the UK. The SNP Government is putting investment and Scottish jobs at risk. To add insult to injury, the SNP Government failed to conduct a Business Impact Assessment before publishing the regulations.
“Scottish Conservatives are responsible for delivering tax cuts for small and medium sized businesses, and for forcing the SNP to keep freezing Council Tax. Having delivered lower taxes, we now aim to stop the SNP punishing business with higher taxes.
“Alex Salmond and the SNP pretend they are a low tax friend of business, but the truth could not be more different.”
