Scottish Conservatives end 2011 on a high

The latest Scottish samples of regular YouGov polling of Westminster voting intentions shows that the Conservatives in Scotland have ended 2011 on a high.

Two months after new leader Ruth Davidson took office and as Scotland backs the Prime Minister's stance on Europe by 2:1, the data shows that the Party is now 4 points ahead of its 2011 average.

Commenting, Deputy Leader, Jackson Carlaw said:

"These are only opinion polls, a snapshot of the public mood, but they are encouraging.

"At a UK level, we are dealing with the deficit and laying the foundations of recovery, and we stood up for Scotland and Britain in Europe.

"In Scotland, we are taking the fight to the SNP and exposing their empty rhetoric over separation, posing the questions they don't want to answer and offering constructive solutions to Scotland's problems.

"Ruth is determined to deliver a fresh Scottish Conservative vision for Scotland in 2012 and beyond.

"The significance of this poll is that it shows that when the Conservatives tackle the issues that matter to Scots, protect Scotland's interests at home and abroad, and offer robust opposition to the separatists, the people of Scotland respond positively to us.

"Scots can be assured that they can expect more of all three of these from Ruth and all Scottish Conservatives in 2012."
