Scottish Conservatives have welcomed the Scottish Government's announcement today that a £10m concession to us in this year's budget will create up to 5,000 jobs.
The money will be used to encourage small and medium sized companies to take staff on, provide assistance with hiring new employees and encourage Scotland's exporting companies.
It is in addition to the £16m housing package secured by Scottish Conservatives, which will also create up to 5,500 jobs in the housing sector.
Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, said:
"In addition to the 5,500 jobs created by the extra £16m we secured for housing, we are delighted that our other major concession in this year's Budget - £10m for small and medium sized businesses – will create a similar number of jobs.
"Scotland will only emerge from the depths of Labour's debt legacy by growing the private sector. Therefore the concession gained by the Scottish Conservatives on employment for small and medium sized businesses is to be welcomed. This additional £10m will be particularly valued by start-up businesses and those who want to export.
"Thanks to the Scottish Conservatives, this year's budget already looks set to benefit Scotland by over 10,000 jobs – a welcome boost in these difficult economic times."
