Scottish Conservatives call for public holiday on April 29th 2011

Scottish Conservatives are calling for the Scottish Government to follow the UK Government and make April 29th 2011 a national holiday, following news that Prince William and Catherine Middleton will be married on this date.

Derek Brownlee MSP said:

"The marriage of the future King, who of course met his fiancée here in Scotland at St Andrews, is an event of huge significance and it is right the whole of the United Kingdom can join in the celebrations. We will be pressing the Scottish Government to adopt April 29th as a one off public holiday, to reflect the depth of feeling and support for the monarchy which still exists in Scotland."
