Salmond’s the only man in Scotland who thinks state-controlled water is best for customers

Alex Salmond is using the water crisis in Northern Ireland to call for more borrowing powers for Scottish Water.

However, this call ignores the real issues around the future of Scottish Water.

Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, said:

"The First Minister knows that the Conservative Government is giving Scotland borrowing powers. However it is the same First Minister who has cut Scottish Water's funding by £150m this year and who refuses to give Scottish Water the ability to borrow by ending Ministerial control.

"The shambles of the water industry in Northern Ireland must leave Alex Salmond the only man in the country who thinks state controlled water is best for customers."
