Salmond’s humiliating apology – Now SNP must stop the bully boy tactics

Speaking after the First Minister's climbdown in the chamber this evening, Murdo Fraser MSP, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid-Scotland & Fife, said:

"This was a humiliating apology from the First Minister. He misled Parliament on this vital issue and his press spokesman invented quotes from a senior and respected academic.

"It speaks volumes about this government that when they come to their flagship policy of an independence referendum, they mislead, manipulate and manufacture evidence in support of their stance, and browbeat and bully those who take a contrary view.

"In addition to apologising to Parliament, the First Minister should apologise to Professor Qvortrup. More importantly, the First Minister and his SNP Government need to mend their ways and stop their bully boy tactics."
