Salmond’s FOI hypocrisy costs taxpayers £53,000

Alex Salmond and the SNP have cost the taxpayer £53,000 trying to stop the Information Commissioner publishing vital details of their Local Income Tax plan.

Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Leader, said:

"This is an outrageous sum of taxpayers' money being spent on trying to hide the truth.

"It's bad enough that Alex Salmond wants to keep secrets from the public, and sneak out his appeal once Parliament is closed, but it's astonishing that he does not trust this information with the Information Commissioner.

"Alex Salmond cannot have it both ways. It's sheer hypocrisy to talk up Freedom of Information powers and then spend more than £50,000 of taxpayers' money trying to stop them work.

"Local Income Tax would penalise hard working, Scots, make most of them pay more and would be hugely expensive to administer.

"It is unfair, uncosted and unworkable – judging by their actions, the SNP already know this, but just won't admit it."
