Salmond’s economic advisers finally meet after pressure from the Scottish Conservatives

At First Minister's Questions last month Scottish Conservative leader asked Alex Salmond why his Council of Economic Advisers has failed to meet since September of 2010.

When Alex Salmond announced the formation of the Council he described it as "our best chance in several generations to tackle the problem of systemic economic mediocrity."

Scottish Conservative Finance Spokesman, Gavin Brown MSP said:

"At last, after an inexplicable 15 month delay, the First Minister has finally managed to convene a meeting of the Council of Economic Advisers.

"I wish the Council well and am interested in reading the minutes of what was discussed.

"It is critical that we get the economy moving again and we need to establish why unemployment is increasing rapidly in Scotland while is decreases in Wales and Northern Ireland.

"From reading Mr Salmond's press release I think he needs to be reminded that the advisers are there to advise him and not the other way around"
