The Salmond Super Tax has been voted out in the Scottish Parliament Chamber.
Gavin Brown MSP, Shadow Minister for Enterprise, said:
"It was absolutely right for the Scottish Parliament to reject the ill-conceived Salmond Super Tax. The proposed 'raid on retail' sent out entirely the wrong message to the business community and would have made life even more difficult for some of our town centres.
"The retail sector is of vital importance to the Scottish economy, employing a quarter of a million people. We cannot afford to put jobs at risk during these tough economic times by creating a tax burden that makes Scotland less competitive than the rest of the UK.
"For the SNP to complain about a £30m hole in the budget is misguided because we know they are sitting on £89million more from business rates than they expected, as we saw in the recent budget documents."
