At her first FMQs as leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Ruth Davidson forced Alex Salmond to confirm that not only is he confident of winning an independence referendum if it were held tomorrow, but also that there will be a straight 'yes or no' question.
The admission comes as a poll on The Scotsman website of over 35,000 responses has shown that by nearly three to one Scotland wants a simple, straightforward question.
Speaking after FMQs, Ruth Davidson said:
"At last we got from the First Minister confirmation that there will be a straight 'yes or no' question. We now need to make sure that's the only question. He also said he was confident he would win it if it was held tomorrow. What's he waiting for?
"Public opinion couldn't be clearer. A poll on The Scotsman website shows that by nearly three to one Scotland wants a simple straightforward question, in addition to the BBC poll that put support for independence at just over a quarter.
"Alex Salmond needs to stop stalling and set a date. Scotland is ready for it and we now need to move on from his separatist agenda and concentrate on what Scotland needs."
