Ryanair decision ‘deeply disappointing’

Ryanair has announced that it plans to axe routes from Edinburgh Airport. The decision could lead to passenger traffic dropping by 15% and put 300 jobs at risk.

Scottish Conservative Transport Spokesman, Alex Johnstone MSP said:

"It is deeply disappointing that Ryanair has chosen to axe these routes from Edinburgh Airport.

"The dominance Ryanair has achieved at Edinburgh Airport unfortunately means that whenever they take decisions such as these it will undoubtedly have serious repercussions. Up to 300 jobs could now be under threat and passengers will be left with far less choice with whom to fly with.

"This must now be used as an opportunity to reinvigorate competition at the airport and encourage more flights to and from Edinburgh. The SNP must seriously investigate initiatives that will help other airlines set up routes from Edinburgh Airport and restore the variety of service that Scottish passengers deserve."
