Ken Macintosh has launched his campaign for the leadership of the Scottish Labour Party with a bizarre demand to return Scotland to the long lost days of trade union supremacy and incompetence by re-nationalising the railways.
Scottish Conservative Transport spokesman Jackson Carlaw MSP, said:
"This ludicrous suggestion from Ken Macintosh is designed purely as a means of gaining publicity and to cosy up to those on the left of his party.
"After Labour left us with a record budget deficit, it is remarkable that Mr. Macintosh believes we should now spend goodness knows how many millions of pounds renationalising Scotland's rail industry. It would be interesting to see what areas of the budget Mr. Macintosh would like to see drastically cut to pay for such an extraordinarily expensive measure.
"To add the icing on the cake he then suggests revisiting bus regulation – an idea that has been resoundingly rejected by the Scottish Parliament repeatedly over the years
"It is clear that a challenging and thought provoking Conservative Leadership contest is to be followed by a Scottish Labour revival of comedy scripts best left in the 1960s and 1970s"
