Potholes: Problem is deeper than any £2m quick fix

Transport Scotland's operating companies have been allocated an extra £2 million to fix potholes across the country.

Jackson Carlaw MSP, Shadow Minister for Transport, said:

"Whilst we welcome this allocation, there is no doubt it is just a further band-aid over a problem every motorist in Scotland knows goes far deeper than any £2m quick fix. There is an election in the offing so perhaps we should not be surprised.

"Both the SNP in government and the previous Labour-led Executive have been reckless in their sustained disregard for our national roads infrastructure. And whilst Mr Swinney makes this announcement today, his budget has slashed roads maintenance over the next year.

"This is a short term and cynical fix for a political pot hole - the real ones will barely notice the difference. Scotland needs a fresh approach and a new government prepared to get the job done."
