Poll shows people back Scotland in Britain

A poll by the Daily Mail of more than 1,200 voters has shown that 53% reject independence while just over a quarter are in favour of it.

Leader of the Scottish Conservatives, Ruth Davidson said:

"This is more evidence of why Alex Salmond refuses to answer any of the big questions about his plan to break up Britain and why he won't get on with the referendum. The simple truth is that Scotland is better off in Britain and Britain is great because Scotland is in it. The people of Scotland agree.

"It is time to settle the issue. We need a single, straight-forward question free from legal challenge and we need to get on with it. If Alex Salmond really cares about Scotland's best interests then he will work with the UK Government to let Scotland decide."

The Poll asked 'If Westminster's political parties held a referendum in Scotland on Scottish independence, how would you vote?'

53% were against independence, 28% were in favour while 17% were unsure. Only 2% said that they would not vote if the poll was organised by Westminster.
