PE funding package should have come sooner

The Scottish Government is expected to announce details of a new funding package to boost physical education in Scottish schools.

Scottish Conservative Education Spokesperson, Liz Smith MSP said:

"Physical education plays a crucial role in a child's health and wellbeing, and that is why we broadly welcome the Scottish Government's funding package to promote physical education in schools. However it is startling that the SNP has waited so long to take these steps.

"Despite going into the 2007 election pledging to deliver two hours of physical education in primary and secondary schools, the figures show that the vast majority of schools are failing to deliver on this target. Perhaps instead of throwing money at the problem and hoping it will get better, the Scottish Government should be looking at where they have been going wrong for so long."
