New poll must spell end of Salmond Super Tax

A Populus poll has found that 74% of Scots feel that the Salmond Super Tax is unfair. This comes only two days before the Parliament finally gets the chance to defeat the measure.

Commenting, Scottish Conservative Shadow Minister for Enterprise Gavin Brown MSP said:

"This is yet another crushing blow for the Salmond Super Tax as these results show that a clear majority of Scots not only believe that the tax is unfair, but that it will have a hugely negative impact on jobs and investment in Scotland. The Scottish people have realised what the SNP are still refusing to come to terms with – that this tax sends out a message that it doesn't pay to be a successful business in Scotland.

"Any form of this Super Tax on jobs will do untold damage to Scotland's reputation as a place to do business and with the results of this poll now indicating that 71% of Scots think that the Scottish Parliament should vote it down, this must spell the end of this disastrous, ill-conceived and unpopular idea.

"The retail sector is of vital importance to the Scottish economy, employing a quarter of a million people, and we cannot afford to put jobs at risk during these tough and stringent economic times. If Alex Salmond wants to deliver a recovery for the Scottish economy he should scrap this tax on jobs now."
