NESTA report: Time for other parties to join debate on reforming public services

A report by the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), has called on the Scottish Government to set out bold strategies for reform in health, justice and social care. The report also projects that the costs of providing current levels of services in Scotland are set to rise by £27 billion over the next 15 years.

Derek Brownlee MSP, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth, said:

"We have been arguing for years that reforming public services is the best way to protect them. For too long the left-wing establishment in Scotland has fought against even modest reform. Given the scale of the challenge we have to get through the financial mess Labour left, reforming public services is long overdue.

"Scottish Conservatives have led the way, with bold ideas on education, concrete proposals to improve the integration of health and social care, and the championing of a new model for Scottish Water. The other parties may have run a mile from every new idea for the past eleven years but they will now have to face up to reality."
