A BBC Scotland investigation has found evidence that home reports have failed to curb the need for multiple surveys on single properties.
David McLetchie MSP, Scottish Conservative Chief Whip, said:
"In the best of times, Home Reports were an expensive luxury. However in these difficult economic times caused by Labour's debt legacy and with the housing market struggling to return to where it was a couple of years ago, they are madness.
"And now we see they are not even having the effect of eliminating multiple surveys which their supporters claimed would be one of their benefits.
"We urged the postponement of this scheme before it was rolled out in December 2008 but the SNP Government refused to see sense. At the time it beggared belief that the SNP Government went ahead with the introduction of this scheme which it inherited from its Labour/Lib Dem predecessors and which only the Scottish Conservatives opposed in the Parliament. It makes a lot less sense now.
"In May, the UK Government took the sensible decision to scrap Home Information Packs, the equivalent of Home Reports in England and Wales. The SNP Government should now follow suit. There is no good reason why Scotland should be the only place in the United Kingdom where these costly, and ineffective, reports are required by law."
Ruth: "Our thoughts should now be with the families of the victims who died on that fateful day in December 1988."

Ruth: "However, this should not stop the questions that still exist, including those regarding his release by the SNP Government."
