McLetchie welcomes new investment by Burtons at Sighthill, Edinburgh

Local MSP David McLetchie has warmly welcomed the announcement by Burton Foods that it will be making a further major investment in its Sighthill factory which will sustain the employment of over 600 permanent and 250 agency staff at the factory.

David McLetchie said,

"This is great news for the Sighthill workers as well as a huge relief because when Burtons announced this review of its facilities across the UK back in October there was a distinct possibility that Sighthill could be closed or seriously run down.

"As it happens the company has decided to close its factory at Moreton in the Wirral with the loss of 342 jobs there and invest in new manufacturing capability here in Edinburgh. In the course of the review I met with Burtons management and the GMB trade union which represents many of the staff.

"Scottish Enterprise has also been involved in discussions with Burtons throughout the review process in making the case for continued production at Edinburgh. I am delighted that our collective efforts have proved successful."
