A commission established by Reform Scotland and the Centre for Scottish Public Policy will today begin looking into all areas of schooling in Scotland.
The Commission on School Reform is designed to ensure that young people in Scotland are able to fulfil their potential and is to be chaired by Keir Bloomer.
Scottish Conservative Education Spokesperson, Liz Smith MSP said:
"I very much welcome the establishment of this Commission. I have no doubt that Keir Bloomer and his colleagues will make a very important contribution to the debate about what we need to do to put Scottish education back at the top of the class once again.
"The Scottish Conservatives have argued for some time that the current system is not working well enough to raise attainment across the board and particularly amongst our more disadvantaged pupils. This is largely the result of a failing within the structure of school management rather than within the teaching profession.
"We need a more flexible system which combines greater choice and diversity and which raises aspirations. Keir Bloomer is well respected in educational circles and he is not frightened to take on a difficult challenge. I wish him well in his work."
Ruth: "Our thoughts should now be with the families of the victims who died on that fateful day in December 1988."

Ruth: "However, this should not stop the questions that still exist, including those regarding his release by the SNP Government."
